En épocas reaccionarias se impone el misticismo, el relativismo y el irracionalismo. En contraparte, el pensamiento materialista, la idea de poder conocer el mundo y sus leyes, la razón y la ciencia son el clima cultural de las épocas revolucionarias.

La burguesía lo que pretende es equiparar las verdades revolucionarias con sus mentiras reaccionarias.

La burguesía se basa en la mentira y trata de minar la convicción revolucionaria creando una noche relativista donde todos los gatos sean pardos.

O escravo é uma propriedade como o gado o é, e não como uma coisa inanimada. Sua liberdade de movimentos lembra a de um animal ao qual se permite pastar e fundar algo como uma família. O verdadeiro caráter de uma coisa é sua impenetrabilidade. Ela pode ser chutada e empurrada, mas é incapaz de armazenar ordens. A definição jurídica do escravo como coisa e como propriedade é, pois, enganosa. Ele é um animal e uma propriedade . É antes com um cão que se pode comparar um escravo. Abre mão de suas próprias iniciativas, na medida em que estas contrariem tais ordens, e, como recompensa por isso, é por ele alimentado.
